SpiceNews talks to Aquatique Creative Director Jean Kohler about this year’s Darling Harbour-based water show.

French production company Aquatique has again been contracted to build the water show that will form a key part of the Vivid Sydney program.

Aquatique Creative Director Jean Kohler said that the company is currently in the process of building a 150m x 60m black PVC star that will float in Darling Harbour. He said that they had to build the star on the street outside of the factory in France because it wouldn’t fit inside.

Kohler said, “It’s been an architectural challenge because it must be able to float while still being solid enough to maintain the shape of the star. Last year we shipped over two containers of stuff; this year we’re shipping five and we will put the star together at White Bay and float it into position.”

The whole show is based on the concept of the Southern Cross and Ignatius Jones will program the music. Kohler said, “A water show is a work of elements – like fireworks – and the choice of music influences the emotions it will evoke.”

Kohler is also currently consulting on an artist’s show at Burj Kalifa in Dubai and a set up in a theme park in Rome.

Aquatique creates and runs approximately 100, 000 shows around the world every year on behalf of clients like Disney and Universal Studios.
