Going up, going down

What's hot and what's not in the world of events.

From sustainable solutions and summer cocktails to awkward event times and fake truffle – these are the best and worst event trends right now.

Going up

BIODEGRADABLE CONFETTI

Opt for water-soluble and biodegradable confetti for your next event – it dissolves when wet making clean-up a breeze.

SPRITZ

With the warm weather showing little signs of letting up, spritzes are back on the menu.

RECYCLING FLOWERS

Got loads of leftover flowers from an event? Consider donating them to an aged care facility or community centre – you’ll be helping the environment and making someone’s day too.

TABLE PROJECTION MAPPING

As seen at a recent event by Encore Event Technologies, table projection mapping can transform any meal into a multimedia event.

FOOD DELIVERY AT HOTELS

Deliveroo recently partnered with Meriton Suites, Quest Apartments and TFE Hotels to deliver restaurant meals to guests’ rooms. Could this be the end of expensive room service dinners?

Going down

PLASTIC WATER BOTTLES

Join the war against waste and remove singleuse plastic water bottles from your conference. Opt for reusable metal or glass bottles instead.

GRAZING TABLES THAT DON’T WORK

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: if you’re putting on a grazing table make sure there’s plenty of (good quality) food to go around and enough tables for guests to stand at. And can we stop using unnecessarily heavy plates!?

AWKWARD START TIMES FOR EVENTS

Remember your guests probably have to front up to work the next morning!

TRUFFLE EVERYTHING

Truffle season is over, so although that truffle-infused mac and cheese sounds delicious, it’s unlikely there’s any real truffle in there.
