After a whirlwind year, the Spice team is signing off for some much needed downtime before we do it all again in 2022! In the meantime, check out the 2021 "good news" stories that our readers have loved.

After yet another whirlwind year comes to a close, we’re looking forward to a much needed and well deserved break, as we’re sure many of you are as well.

Needless to say, 2021 has dished out some challenging times for the industry, but amidst all the hardships, there were plenty of feel-good stories, including exciting new announcements and openings.

Unsurprisingly, these “good news” stories have been our most popular, perhaps lending a sense of hope and optimism for what’s to come for 2022. We reflect on just some of these below.

Our most-read story of 2021 was Venues NSW’s announcement that Merivale take over all things food and beverage at Sydney Cricket Ground this summer, and at the new Sydney Football Stadium when it opens in 2022.

2. Destination Gold Coast appoints new Chair

In November, Destination Gold Coast announced the appointment of Adrienne Readings as Chair of the Board, replacing outgoing Chair Paul Donovan who served a 17-year tenure in the role.
