Sydney Opera House unveils 50th anniversary season line-up

A year-long festival celebrating the world famous venue's milestone birthday kicks off next month.

The Sydney Opera House has released its 50th anniversary entertainment program, featuring an impressive line-up of talent, performances, events and experiences in celebration of the icon’s milestone birthday.

Featuring the likes of Tim Minchin, Vance Joy and Ngaiire & Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the program will showcase the best of contemporary culture from major Australian and international artists, with more than 200 performances, events and experiences presented on the Opera House’s famous sails, in its theatres, on the Forecourt and online.

Supported by the NSW Government’s Blockbusters Funding initiative, the year-long season of special events will commence next month and reach its finale at the Opera House’s 50th birthday in October 2023.

“The Opera House is a global beacon of creativity and I’m thrilled the NSW Government is supporting the 50th anniversary celebrations through a world-class program for the entire community,” Minister for Tourism and the Arts Ben Franklin said.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity to showcase the Opera House’s immense contribution to the cultural fabric of our nation, and to attract more people from across NSW and around the world to experience this extraordinary building and all it has to offer.

“The newly refurbished Concert Hall, together with the Opera House’s other world-class venues and new creative and gathering spaces, offer the perfect setting to ensure that artists, audiences and visitors can experience the full potential of this magnificent building.”

The Opera House is Australia’s most visited tourist destination, one of the world’s busiest performing arts centres and a State, National and World Heritage listed site.
