Attica in Melbourne came in at 32 on  the annual S.Pellegrino World’s Best Restaurant list.

Only one Australian restaurant made it into the top 50 this year, with one Aussie alumni – David Thomson’s Nahm restaurant at The Metropol in Bangkok – coming in at number 13. Attica was also named best restaurant in Australasia.

Attica chef and co-owner Ben Shewry, along with business partner David Maccora, flew to London’s Guildhall to accept the award.

Speaking before the event, Shewry said, “There are many fantastic restaurants worthy of making it into the top 50. To me, whether it’s 50 or 21, it’s great.

“It’s a huge honour so it’s worth making the journey here for that, and it’s an opportunity to catch up with friends in the industry. You get to hang out and do lunch in the days before (the awards), it’s a pretty rare opportunity.”

Rene Redzepi’s Noma in Copenhagen regained its number one position, bumping Spain’s El Celler de  Can Roca back to second position.

Full details of the list can be found here and outlined below.
