Australia ranked 13th in global conference ratings

Australia has been ranked 13th globally for hosting international conferences, according to a new report from International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA).

The annual ICCA Country and City Rankings measure the number of international conferences hosted in a destination in the 2023 calendar year.

The number-one spot went to the US, with Italy, Spain, France and Germany rounding out the top five.

Australia scored three cities in the top 100, with Sydney placed at position 25, Melbourne at 35 and Brisbane at 76.

Adelaide is 150th, Cairns is 212th, Perth is 228th and Hobart is 248th.

New Zealand is ranked 43rd, with Auckland at 84th.

South Korea topped the rankings in Asia Pacific, ahead of Japan and Australia, with New Zealand at 12th.

For Asia Pacific cities, Singapore topped the rankings ahead of Seoul (South Korea) and Tokyo (Japan), with Sydney at six, Melbourne at nine and Brisbane at 14.

“We’re heartened to see the world of meetings and events has continued to grow and thrive in the face of ongoing challenges and a rapidly changing landscape, including digital and real-life threats, international conflicts and unfolding geopolitical upheaval,” says ICCA CEO Senthil Gopinath.
