First in Australia: Sustainable certification for Sydney hotel

A Circular Quay hotel in Sydney has become the first property for its company to earn Sustainable Tourism Certification by Ecotourism Australia.

Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel at Circular Quay is the first Marriott International hotel in Australia to be recognised with the sustainability certification.

The recognition highlights the hotel’s commitment to meeting best-practice standards across environmental, socioeconomic, cultural and sustainable management principles.

The hotel’s initiatives include Serve 360, a sustainability and social impact platform that guides actions such as implementing energy efficiency systems, prioritising water conservation and championing the use of sustainable and local produce in menu items.

Additionally, its Connect Responsibly initiative helps event planners and attendees meet sustainability objectives.

“Congratulations to Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel at Circular Quay for taking this significant step on their sustainability journey,” says Elissa Keenan, CEO, Ecotourism Australia.

“Their enthusiasm for and alignment to globally recognised sustainable tourism standards is testament to their team and their commitment.”

Accommodation providers who have obtained certification can add it to their Booking.com listing, making it easier than ever to demonstrate sustainability credentials.

“Achieving Ecotourism Australia’s Sustainable Tourism Certification is a proud milestone for Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel at Circular Quay,” says Bernhard Langer, general manager, Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel.

“Guided by Marriott’s Serve 360 sustainability program, we’ve embedded environmentally responsible practices across every aspect of our operations, from reducing energy and water consumption to improving waste management and building strong partnerships with our local community.”
