Hilton Worldwide has added another DoubleTree property in the South Pacific, taking over Sonaisali Island in Fiji.

The property will become DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Fiji Sonaisali Island and will be the first DoubleTree by Hilton brand hotel to open in Fiji.

“We are proud to be flying the DoubleTree by Hilton flag in yet another exciting market – truly exemplifying the strength and momentum of the brand on an international scale,” said John Greenleaf, global head, DoubleTree by Hilton.

“Guests at the DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Fiji – Sonaisali Island will be welcomed by the familiar warm hospitality and service that is consistent with the more than DoubleTree by Hilton properties currently operating globally.”

Located 30 minutes from Nadi International Airport, DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Fiji – Sonaisali Island will open with 123 rooms in an expansive oceanfront location overlooking the picturesque South Pacific Ocean. The resort property will also offer a swimming pool, various restaurants and conferencing facilities.

The property, currently operating as Sonaisali Island Resort is owned by the Vision Group Fiji and will be subject to extensive conversion works. The property closed in November 2014 and scheduled to reopen in early 2015 as DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Fiji – Sonaisali Island.

“Fiji has long been known as one of the Pacific’s most idyllic destinations. Its close proximity to Australia and New Zealand, wide range of activities and rich culture and heritage make for a unique leisure holiday,” said Ashley Spencer, vice president, operations, Australasia.

“With the launch of the DoubleTree by Hilton brand in Fiji, we look forward to providing travellers with an exceptional full-service resort hotel that compliments the country’s best tourism assets, particularly those on offer for families.”

Dilip Khatri Chairman Vision Group said, “Over a number of years we have developed a successful relationship with Hilton Worldwide as managers of Fiji Beach Resort and Spa, managed by Hilton in Denarau.

“Due to the success of this property, it made a great deal of sense for Hilton Worldwide to manage our newest acquisition on Sonaisali Island.

“We are particularly pleased to introduce the first DoubleTree by Hilton property to Fiji which we believe will meet the needs of our customers and continue to provide jobs in the region.”

Recognized worldwide for its warm, hospitable service, DoubleTree by Hilton is Hilton Worldwide’s fastest growing full service brand, with 380 properties in 33 countries and territories. Along with DoubleTree by Hilton’s three existing Australian properties in Darwin and Alice Springs, two new DoubleTree by Hilton Hotels in Western Australia have been announced in Perth and Fremantle, as well as the DoubleTree by Hilton Cairns which is scheduled to open on October 1st 2014.
