Hot venue: Kid Kyoto

Sam Prince Hospitality Group has opened a new Japanese restaurant in Sydney.

Hidden in an alleyway at the back of Bridge Street, guests are welcomed by Kid Kyoto’s neon sign.

The restaurant design was overseen by the Group’s in-house design team; Project Z, led by Matilda Forbes, with consultancy from Kirsten Hicks – Creatura Design Studio, New York City.

Exposed concrete walls and brickwork, and an exposed maze of pipes on the roof gives added texture and statement to the space.

In an interpretation of a Japanese Izakaya bar, head chef Seb Gee’s (ex China Doll/China Lane) menu is designed for sharing.

Examples of his dishes include robata grilled preserved lemon chicken tsukune with an onsen egg ‘birds nest’ and chili rayu, and pork yakiton with native quandong and intense karashi mustard.

There is a private dining room that can seat up to 12 people.

Kid Kyoto is located at 17-19 Bridge Street [entry via Bridge Lane] Sydney NSW.
