Sydney gets Rapt in Riesling

Sydneysiders were out in force on Friday January 20 as they shopped, bopped and sipped on some of Australia’s finest Rieslings at the inaugural event, Wrapped in Riesling.

The brainchild of public relations company, Fireworks PR online drinks publication, Sip Your Style ,  Wrapped in Riesling aimed to connect consumers with Riesling in a relaxed and fun environment.

More than 160 guests attended to sip riesling, try on vintage clothing and enjoy the atmosphere.

Held at Waterloo’s aMBUSH Gallery, more than 160 people came along to sip riesling, try on vintage clothing, nibble on some seafood and spill out onto the laneway to enjoy Sydney’s gorgeous summer weather in urban style. The riesling flowed as guests tasted some of the 26 wines on offer, covering three Australian states – well and truly putting Riesling centre stage!

Official sponsor, Riedel, kindly provided the glassware so guests could sip Riesling in style and enjoy wine from some of the fantastic participating wineries including; Brown Brothers (VIC), Dal Zotto (VIC), Dandelion Vineyards (SA), Frogmore Creek (TAS), Henschke (SA), Kirrihill Wines (SA), Knappstein (SA), Leasingham (SA), Peter Lehmann Wines (SA), Raidis Estate (SA) and Taylors Wines (SA).

Plenty of vintage style was on offer for guests to shop their hearts out.

The Vintage Fashion Emporium came on board with 7 unique stallholders showcasing a range of vintage fashion from hats, bags, accessories, women and men’s classic clothing to style books, boots and boas, all beautifully displayed. The concept of vintage fashion matched with Riesling and funky tunes resonated with the crowd, creating a buzzy street party atmosphere. High profile DJs from hot outfit Future Classic, rocked the event with some laid back vibes, perfect for the hot summer night.

Three kinds of oysters, the perfect match with Riesling, were shucked to order by Sydney City Oysters and Spring Bay Mussels, from the pristine waters of Tasmania, were on hand to wok cook fresh mussels with a number of different flavours.

Three varieties of oysters were on hand to try with 26 brands of riesling.

The event was part of the ‘Summer of Riesling’  promotion, a month long celebration of riesling in Sydney, which kicked off on January 9 and ran through the month.

Co-organiser Kathy Lane, from FireWorks PR, was rapt with the event, saying, “Vintage fashion, food and fine Riesling was a great concept that really worked with the crowd. It was a move away from the classic wine tasting format and we thank all of the producers for taking a risk and trying something different. We were delighted with the evening and hope that we’ve converted some more punters to the joys of Riesling!”
