500 Bourke is an impressively sustainable venue. The building has been carbon neutral from day one of operation, and fully electric, using 100% renewable energy for base building electricity. In redeveloping this icon, ISPT chose to transform and reposition the location, rather than demolishing, honouring the building’s 40+ year legacy and saving approximately 57,000 tonnes of embodied carbon – equivalent to the carbon emitted by almost 9,000 cars per year.
