Gelato Messina and Porteno buddy up for Sydney Festival

Two of Sydney’s most creative food businesses have partnered to create The Double Down Diner for the Sydney Festival.

Porteno will be serving up fourteen crowd-pleasing diner classics including Philly cheese steak, chilli dogs, chilli cheese fries and Southern fried chicken and waffles and Messina has created eight mouth watering concoctions.

Messina’s kooky offerings include Not chicken and waffles, a deep-fried ‘chicken drumstick’ (maple and pecan gelato) served on Belgium waffle with a whisky caramel gravy, the Royale with cheese, a Messina ‘gelato burger’ – milk chocolate gelato pattie layered with white chocolate cheese, passionfruit ‘mustard’ and raspberry ‘ketchup’, served in a warm brioche bun and a range of pies including cherry pie, lemon meringue and The Nutty Piefessor.

The crew are also serving two thickshakes – a banana and peanut shake with ‘bacon’ crunch and a pretzel and salted malt shake – as well as housemade creaming soda with Tahitian vanilla bean gelato.

The Double Down Diner is located in the Festival Village in Hyde Park, Sydney.
