Situated in the heart of Australia’s iconic Gold Coast, this state-of-the-art facility is not only renowned for hosting world-class events but also for its unwavering commitment to ensuring that everyone, regardless of their physical or sensory abilities, can fully participate and enjoy their time at the venue.

Accessible Infrastructure and Parking
GCCEC’s physical infrastructure is designed with accessibility in mind. The venue is equipped with ramps, elevators, and wide doorways to accommodate individuals using wheelchairs or mobility aids. This thoughtful design extends throughout the facility, allowing attendees with disabilities to move seamlessly between different event spaces.

GCCEC offers numerous accessible parking spaces close to the entrance, making it convenient for visitors with disabilities to access the venue without having to cover long distances. These parking spaces are clearly marked and are often equipped with extra space for vehicle-mounted ramps or wheelchair unloading.

Assistive Technology
The Centre is equipped with cutting-edge assistive technologies to enhance the experience for individuals with sensory disabilities. A mobile hearing argumentation system and captioning services are readily available, ensuring that those with hearing impairments can fully participate in conferences, presentations, and performances.

Wheelchair Accessibility and Bathroom Features
GCCEC goes the extra mile to ensure that attendees using wheelchairs have a smooth experience. There are designated wheelchair seating areas in event spaces, ensuring that those with disabilities can enjoy an unobstructed view. Additionally, accessible restrooms are strategically located throughout the venue.

The venue provides accessible restrooms with features like grab bars and lowered fixtures, making it comfortable for individuals with mobility requirements. Furthermore, amenities such as water fountains, food service counters, and information desks are designed to be accessible to all.

Comprehensive Staff Training
GCCEC places a high priority on staff training to ensure that they are well-equipped to assist attendees with disabilities. Staff members are trained in disability awareness, and they are readily available to provide guidance and assistance when needed.

GCCEC also collaborates with event organisers to promote inclusive practices. This includes providing sign language interpreters, accessible event materials, and flexible seating arrangements to accommodate different needs.

“From our airport to accommodation, venues, meeting spaces, tourism experiences and beaches, we’re proud of the significant progress we’ve made for those who meet, visit and holiday here,” Ms Hancock said.

Queensland Tourism Industry Council CEO, Brett Fraser, congratulated GCCEC for helping to make Queensland a more inclusive and accessible destination.

“Achieving Accessibility Accreditation elevates a tourism business and demonstrates their dedication to improving the visitor experience for all guests,” he said.

“Providing a welcoming customer service experience, understanding different guest requirements, and improving inclusion goes to the heart of tourism and those who work in this industry.

“It’s great to see businesses like the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre working to improve their visitor offerings.

“Small changes can make a big difference for our guests and their experience.”
