Rockhampton launches accessible tourism campaign

The Queensland city of Rockhampton has launched a new tourism campaign focusing on inclusivity for travellers with a disability.

The city’s lead tourism, marketing and major events agency, Advance Rockhampton, has launched the “Explore Rockhampton Accessible Tourism Campaign”, with the first phase showcasing local experiences that demonstrate mobility inclusiveness.

Subsequent phases in the ongoing campaign will include experiences for people who are hard of hearing or deaf, and with low vision or blindness.

From guided tours to outdoor adventures, the Explore Rockhampton campaign is promoting activities accessible to all visitors, from a meerkat encounter at Rockhampton Zoo to catching a barramundi from an accessible land-based fishing platform.

Included in the campaign is technical aspects such as hallway width, lift access, ramps and amenities.

Local operators have access to a campaign toolkit with a suite of images and videos to download and use for promotional purposes.
