EEAA calls on young leaders for sustainability forums

Young event professionals are invited to road test the association's new sustainability framework.

The Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia (EEAA) is calling on young leaders of the business events industry to help develop a Sustainability Charter and Framework.

Following its an announcement in June 2018, EEAA has committed to a new initiative to make environmental sustainability a major focus for the business events industry.

With the Environmental Sustainability Working Group having completed its first phase of work, EEAA is now calling on young business event professionals to “road test” the framework and provide feedback.

EEAA chief executive Joyce DiMascio said it is important that the expertise and aspirations of young people inform the association’s work.

“It’s critical that our next generation leaders help us to shape this strategy and the programs that will stem from it,” she said.

Two Young Stars Sustainability Forums will be held in Sydney and Melbourne on 25 February and 26 February respectively.

Insights gathered at the forum will be shared with the EEAA executive board in order to inform the final framework.

“We invite the industry to join us for these important workshops,” said DiMascio.

“We don’t want to undertake this work in a vacuum – collaboration is essential.

“The events give emerging leaders a direct pipeline to the Environmental Sustainability Working Group so that they can influence the course of action that will be adopted by the EEAA. We are confident that many of the solutions to embed sustainable practices will come these two events – and from young people.”

Attendees are also invited to a networking reception following the workshops. The events are open to EEAA members and non-members.
