DMC World View: Business events in Africa

In the latest instalment of Spice’s DMC World View series, Amazing Africa’s general manager of business development, Kerstin Bahnmuller, presents a snapshot of the continent’s trends in business events.

Amazing Africa is an owner-managed Destination Management Company (DMC) for southern and eastern Africa. With a German mindset paired with South African creativity, it is dedicated to achieving business event success.

The company services groups in destinations such as South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Angola, Madagascar, Mauritius and Seychelles.

Amazing Africa’s business during the first half of 2023 was strong, with the volume of travellers almost at pre-COVID-19 levels.

Up until the end of August 2023, the company ran and managed more than 80 groups. The forecast for 2024 is also looking very positive, with all markets now recovered post-pandemic.

Amazing Africa’s main market for visitor groups is Europe, with Germany, Eastern Europe and the UK very strong. The company has also managed business for groups out of the US, Canada and Latin America.

Business leads have risen in the past 12 months. During 2023, many visitors were travelling upmarket and including an increased volume of activities in their itineraries.

Amazing Africa doesn’t have lingering issues regarding COVID-19. Luckily for the region, it is predominantly an outdoor activities and nature-based destination for visitors who still have reservations about travel.

Increasingly, corporate social responsibility (CSR) elements are becoming prevalent within the company’s programs.
