Darwin celebrates successful BASSINTHEGRASS 2022 Festival

Thousands of music lovers gathered on Mindil Beach to dance under palm trees against the backdrop of a stunning sunset, a combination that makes BASS a stand-out Australian music festival.

Darwin’s renowned BASSINTHEGRASS Festival, the largest music festival in the Northern Territory, has concluded for another year, drawing nearly 14,000 enthusiastic attendees to Mindil Beach to revel in the performances of some of Australia’s biggest music stars.

The festival is organised by the Northern Territory Major Events Company (NTMEC) and its success was further highlighted as the event recently garnered recognition at the prestigious Eventex Awards, earning accolades in both the Best Australian/Oceanian Event and Best Festival categories.

This year’s lineup captivated the crowds with performances by acclaimed artists such as Peach PRC, San Cisco, Babe Rainbow, and the local talent Baker Boy, who drew an exceptionally large audience. The festivities continued late into the night with acts including Spacey Jane, Angus & Julia Stone, and The Presets.

Festival goers were also treated to a special Welcome to Country and Saltwater Ceremony on the beach, led by Larrakia Elder Dr. Richie Fejo, who graciously welcomed everyone to Larrakia country.

NTMEC chief executive officer Suzana Bishop expressed her delight with the event’s success.

“This iconic, award-winning music festival has again proven that Darwin is the place to be when it comes to events. Around a quarter of attendees travelled from interstate to attend, and there was a healthy sprinkling of international visitors too,” Bishop said.

“Each year BASS’s reputation keeps on growing, and for good reason. Not only do attendees get to enjoy a day of amazing music – they also get to enjoy everything else the Northern Territory has to offer, including ancient Indigenous culture, exciting tourism experiences and Australia’s best sunsets.”
