Business Events Tasmania and Tourism Australia have yesterday (7 June) announced the details of a cooperative marketing partnership designed to boost the number of business events delegates visiting Tasmania in 2011 by over 1,400 people.
The project is one of the first to be announced as part of a $2 million partnership between Tourism Australia and the business events sector, aimed at boosting business event delegate numbers nationally. The program was announced by the Minister for Resources, Energy and Tourism, the Hon Martin Ferguson AM MP, in December 2009.

Business Events Tasmania’s program will aim to boost the impact of business events that have already been secured for the calendar in 2011.
The funding provided through this joint program will allow Business Events Tasmania to increase delegate numbers at events being hosted in the state in 2011 and also to encourage all delegates to tour Tasmania before and after their conference, dispersing the conomic benefits throughout the state,” said Stuart Nettlefold, CEO, Business Events Tasmania.
“We anticipate that our campaign will increase the number of business events delegates visiting Tasmania in 2011 by over 1,400 increasing the direct economic impact of these events by nearly $1.8 million for the local economy.”
Marketing activity being introduced by Business Events Tasmania will include direct marketing to potential delegates, a Tasmanian presence at preceding events held in 2010 and an ambassador program designed to target key decision makers in relevant industries.

“We’re particularly excited about launching the new ambassador program. It will give us the opportunity to engage high profile industry professionals and passionate Tasmanians from a range of backgrounds to act as ambassadors and encourage delegates to attend the Tasmania event – essentially providing an endorsement of our credentials to delegates in various fields,” Nettlefold said.
“We’re aiming to have 20 high profile ambassadors on board by the end of this year.”
Tourism Australia will assist in rolling out 15 cooperative marketing programs with convention bureaux nationally this year, as part of its commitment to boosting the business events sector.
