The Surf Yamba to reopen with boutique accommodation and event space

The almost 100-year-old northern NSW venue is getting a luxe makeover.

Opening in late May, The Surf Yamba will be redeveloped to bring boutique accommodation and event spaces to northern New South Wales region.

For almost 100 years, The Surf Yamba has occupied a prime spot directly opposite Yamba’s Main Beach.

Now, the property is undergoing a major transformation to reveal 12 accommodation rooms, each with a contemporary coastal look by Sydney’s Design King Company.

The venue will also feature a rooftop terrace and pool with sweeping ocean views and a Club Room, ideal for private events and meetings of up to 60 guests.

Co-owners David, Andrew and Phillip Mayne acquired the property 12 years ago with the vision to one day redevelop the site.

“Yamba has always been our go-to holiday destination and with The Surf Yamba, we hope to introduce a new generation of Australians to this beautiful area,” said Andrew.

“The hotel has been inspired by the local scenic landscape, iconic beaches and headlands, and the rich heritage of Australia’s surfing culture.”

The new hotel will be led by general manager Garry Snodgrass, who has previously held roles at luxury  resorts across the Maldives, Thailand, Vietnam and Fiji.

“I’m excited to welcome guests to The Surf Yamba and show them what a special place Yamba is,” he said.

“There’s something for everyone here, whether guests want to retreat and relax at the hotel, or head out and explore the local beaches, and we look forward to delivering a personalised service to create a memorable experience.”

Located an hour’s flight from Sydney or three hours’ drive from Brisbane, The Surf Yamba is poised to become a private escape for leisure travellers and corporate groups.
