Redeveloped Victoria Hotel Rutherglen opens its doors

The historic Victoria Hotel Rutherglen, in northern Victoria, has undergone a multi-million-dollar redevelopment, with phase one of the project now open to the public.

The hotel in the town of Rutherglen, situated near the Victoria-NSW border, features trans-seasonal dining zones for 150+ guests, meetings and events facilities, and an open-air beer garden.

Of the planned 14 boutique suites for the venue, six will open in early 2024, with the others to be completed later in the same year.

Kate and Matt Halpin purchased the freehold in mid-2021 and engaged regional Victoria-based firm Porter Architects to undertake the design, with construction by Hotel Renovations and Maintenance of Melbourne.

The Victoria Hotel Rutherglen features a contemporary style in a heritage setting.

“Understanding we are simply the custodians for this chapter in The Victoria’s history, our intention has been to respect the legacy of her history while creating a place to be enjoyed by many more generations,” says venue director Kate Halpin.

“It has been our privilege to reinvent The Victoria, and we are delighted to invite guests to enjoy her. She now belongs to the community.”
