Panetta brings more than 30 years of hospitality experience to the role, including two decades in luxury hotels.
He has held senior roles across several Accor properties, including Pullman Magenta Shores Resort, Pullman Quay Grand Sydney Harbour and Sofitel Sydney Wentworth.
Most recently, Panetta led the $70 million transformation and relaunch of Sofitel Sydney Wentworth, navigating complex upgrades while maintaining operations.
“I am honoured to lead the team at Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour – a property I know and admire deeply,” he says.
“Each hotel in the Sofitel family tells its own story – shaped by its location and guests – but what connects them all is an unwavering commitment to providing luxury hospitality with a touch of French zest.”
The hotel’s owner, Dr Jerry Schwartz, says the property is well placed to capitalise on a busy second half to 2025.
“Under Sam’s management, we look forward to a very strong end to 2025, with major events such as Lions rugby, Ashes cricket and SXSW putting Sydney in the tourism spotlight,” he says.
David Fraser, vice president operations for Sofitel, MGallery and Emblem brands in the Pacific, says Panetta has been instrumental in the success of Sofitel Sydney Wentworth.
“Sam is renowned for cultivating strong teams, and we are confident that under his stewardship, Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour will continue to reach new heights,” he says.
Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour features 590 rooms and suites, floor-to-ceiling views, five bars and restaurants, an infinity pool and spa, and direct access to ICC Sydney.
