Melbourne’s weather was on her best autumn behaviour last week for the opening of River’s Edge– a hot new venue hugging the banks of the Yarra opposite the massive Melbourne Exhibition Centre.

River’s Edge is a flickering example how a spectacularly beautiful child can be born from unfortunate looking parents. Housed in the old concrete World Trade Centre, River’s Edge, and a handful of other shiny new venues are providing the old grey moth on the river with a chrysalis-like transformation from the inside. The ugly ducking has become the Gaga of the Yarra.

Newly opened for events, River’s Edge, on the banks of Melbourne’s Yarra River.

The designers of River’s Edge have been clever in arresting the views of the river and bringing them into the room as an integral part of the décor. At night, the dramatic illuminated blades of the convention centre burn soft reflections in the river and would have any lighting technician blowing a fuse with envy. Heated river-facing balconies are a special treat.

Catering for corporate events and weddings, River’s Edge is capable of seating 250 banquet style and 600 for classy cocktails.

The event drew a crowd, keen to check out the new space for future events.

In house catering packages are thoughtfully paired with great wines at very affordable prices. They offer a huge range of options with everything from poshing it up at a Garden Tea party and chowing down on a New York deli spread to the full blown banquet – depending on the type of function clients require.

The food gets a big tick from the guests who obviously enjoyed the variety.

River’s Edge is a new kid on the events block and like all new kids she’s delightfully precocious, likes to dress up and show off her new toys, will go out of her way to be liked, and will win your hearts simply by looking cute and gorgeous.
