Marriott makes it debut in Canberra

The global hotel brand will make its debut this month with a 199-room hotel in Braddon.

Marriott International will open its first hotel in Australia’s capital city this month, with the launch of Midnight Hotel in Canberra.

Signed in an agreement with Iconic Hotels, the 199-room hotel will be part of a new $200 million residential and commercial development in Braddon.

Midnight Hotel will be the second hotel to open in Australia under Marriott’s Autograph Collection banner, following Pier One Sydney Harbour, Autograph Collection.

“This deal marks a significant milestone for us since it will be our first in the capital of Australia,” said Marrriott International’s Richard Crawford.

“We look forward to working closely with Iconic Hotels to bring this hotel to this market.”

The hotel will feature a restaurant, bar, indoor swimming pool and wellness centre, as well as conference and event spaces.

Nick Georgalis, founder and managing director of Geocon, Iconic Hotels’ parent company, said Canberra is in a period of “unprecedented growth”.

“Our collaboration with Marriott International through Iconic Hotels perfectly aligns with this growth and enables us to cater for increased hospitality demands on a global scale as well as promote Canberra on an international stage,” he said.
