Chui Lee Luk has created Surry Hills’ first Chinese pub

In a similar way to Kylie Kwong, Chui Lee has taken the menu back to her Chinese-Malaysian roots and will be serving food in a style that makes patrons to feel the joy, happiness and anticipation they’d feel just as if they were sitting in the midst of hawkers and street stalls.

The drinks list features a cleverly curated collection of wines, original cocktails influenced by Asian flavours and textures, plus some rare Chinese beers and spirits.

The team from Giant Design and Babeküuhl worked closely with Chui what is essentially a Chinese pub. Much of the inspiration was drawn from the visual overload of Hong Kong streetscapes, iconic Asian cinema imagery and a playful appropriation of Chinese imagery. The result is a mix of original graphics, advertising and film posters layered on top of each other.
