Over the next five years, New York City is forecasting the Australian inbound market to grow by another 100,000 people by 2015 to a remarkable 632,000.

Already the number one city for Australians visiting the United States (53% of all Aussies visit the Big Apple, according to Visit USA), New York’s popularity shows no signs of abating with both the leisure and MICE markets.

At International Pow Wow in Los Angeles last week (Apr 24), NYC & Company (the city’s tourist board) Chief Executive George Fertitta said the Australian market, now the sixth biggest international inbound market for New York, was instrumental in helping NY reach a target of USD$70 billion in economic impact from tourism by 2015.

Speaking exclusively to SpiceNews on camera at Pow Wow, NYC & Company’s Chris Heywood said Australians were having a significant financial impact on the city and the tourist board was looking at ways to further boost numbers.
