Net Zero Carbon Events launches free industry best practice guide

‘Best Practices for Decarbonisation Pathways’ is a free-to-download guide featuring actionable insights that can be implemented immediately.

The industry leading Net Zero Carbon Events initiative has published “Best Practices for Decarbonisation Pathways,” to provide actionable insights and strategies that can be implemented immediately.

Presenting recommendations from its five specialised workstreams addressing priority action areas, this interim document serves as a preview of the complete guidance documents slated for release in December 2023. Notably, it highlights key actions to enable organisations to embark on their decarbonisation journey with a strategic head start.

The initiative’s five dedicated action area workstreams—Venue Energy, Smart Production and Waste Management, Food and Food Waste, Logistics, Travel and Accommodation—converge to deliver tangible outcomes aligned with the priorities outlined by the Net Zero Carbon Event Roadmap.

Championing sustainable practices within the events industry, the Net Zero Carbon Events initiative has garnered industry-wide support in its pursuit of fostering change, with Joint Meetings Industry Council president, James Rees, the driving force behind the intiative.

“Recognising the urgency of addressing carbon emissions as we move along within our project, we have compiled this preliminary resource,” Rees said.

“We encourage everyone to explore this valuable guidance, which will be continuously updated as we progress with our workstreams’ efforts. The path to achieving net zero carbon events is a collective endeavour and we deeply appreciate everyone’s ongoing support and contributions to this crucial initiative.”

Since its launch at Cop26, the Net Zero Carbon Events Pledge has gained substantial traction, with the Net Zero Carbon Event Roadmap emerging as a significant resource during Cop27 in November 2022. Available in both a comprehensive Full Report detailing implementation steps and an Executive Summary, the roadmap is tailored to guide industry stakeholders toward achieving net zero carbon events.

Over 30 prominent organisations from the global meetings and events industry have joined the Net Zero Carbon Events initiative as financial contributors, ranging from convention bureaux, venues, and event service suppliers to event organisers and associations.
