Historic landmark Sydney hotel to reopen in new year

The privately owned boutique hotel will be operated by Accor, offering 82 rooms and a ground floor 40-seat art deco inspired wine bar.

Following an extensive three-year restoration project, Sydney’s historic landmark Hotel Morris will reopen late January 2023.

The privately owned property at 412 Pitt Street, Haymarket will be operated by Accor and will offer 82 rooms, including five ensuite options, and the 40-seat art deco inspired wine bar, Bar Morris, on the ground floor.

From the design and food to the hospitality, the boutique hotel will blend European elegance with Australian character, championing local producers and celebrating the hotel’s history. The day-to-night menu will focus on simple, seasonal produce infused with Italian influences, while a selection of commissioned and limited-edition art pieces by local artists will complement the space.

Originally opened in 1929, the Italian renaissance building was Australia’s tallest hotel for 34 years and is a rare example of of the renowned Inter-War Palazzo style by notable architect, Virgil Dante Cizzio.
