Auckland’s ICCA ranking surges ahead before major expo

One week ahead of MEETINGS 2012 to be held in Auckland, the destination has made a huge increase in the International Congress and Convention Association rankings

One week ahead of MEETINGS 2012 to be held in Auckland, the destination has made a huge increase in the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) rankings for the Asia Pacific and Middle East region for 2011.

The city jumped from 45th place in 2010 to 19th in 2011 with 22 international meetings hosted, up from eight meetings in 2010.

The recently released ICCA rankings show the number of meetings held in countries and cities right across the globe. Meetings included in the rankings must have 50 or more delegates, be a regular event and must rotate between at least three different countries.

Auckland Convention Bureau Manager Anna Hayward says the results reflect the growth Auckland has achieved in the meetings, conference and incentives market.

“We are thrilled as this demonstrates our increased commitment and presence in the market. The focus and dedication we have put into developing Auckland’s offering has significantly improved our ability to compete globally and to deliver world-class meetings and events.

“Auckland continues to attract a growing number of large scale meetings and to see this kind of progress within just one year shows that we are gaining a considerably higher profile internationally,” she adds.
