Adelaide secures prestigious space business event for 2024

With over 100 space-related businesses and a growing space innovation sector, Adelaide was a good fit.

Adelaide has won the Advancing Earth Observation Forum (AEO24) from Brisbane, which hosted the inaugural edition of the bi-annual event last year, attracting around 300 delegates and thought leaders from the top of the sector.

The Forum will take place 9-13 September at Adelaide Convention Centre.

Earth observation is focused on the collection, analysis, and utilisation of data and information related to Earth’s systems, processes and phenomena. These businesses typically leverage satellite imagery, remote sensing technologies, and other data sources to monitor and study various aspects of the Earth. This includes land use, climate patterns, environmental changes, natural resources and disaster management.

With over 100 space-related businesses and a growing space innovation sector, Adelaide was a good fit for the Forum, according to South Australian Space Industry chief executive officer, Richard Price.

“South Australia is at the forefront of Australia’s space and EO endeavours,” Price said.

“From machine learning and data processing to Internet of Things (IoT) and developing the satellites and sensor packages, South Australia’s expertise spans the full spectrum of EO needs.”

Business Events Adelaide chief executive officer, Damien Kitto said that hosting the event would help to boost those businesses and generate further investment to Adelaide.

“With delegates also having an interest in a range of industry sectors including research, defence, government and education, Adelaide’s proximity to innovation precincts and universities holds strong appeal for progressive business event organisers,” Kitto said.

“Adelaide is a destination where knowledge transfer, research collaborations and partnerships are seamless”.
