Scarborough Hotel sells for $9.5 million

Epochal Hotels has acquired the heritage-listed Scarborough Hotel in the Illawarra region of NSW.

The newly-established Epochal Hotels has acquired the Scarborough Hotel from WIN Corporation for $9.5 million.

The 138-year-old hotel has been owned by WIN for more than 40 years and sits atop cliffs with views over the Pacific Ocean about 20km north of Wollongong.

Epochal Hotels CEO Glenn Piper says Scarborough Hotel stands as a rare gem.

“Boasting an expansive outdoor area, unparalleled beer garden views, and a rich and storied history, this is a deeply meaningful project for us,” he says.

“We want to deliver something truly special here, an experience that befits its spectacular location, reflects the pub’s stature and resonates deeply with the community.”

The property sits on more than 3900 square metres of prime oceanfront land and is the oldest licensed premises in the City of Wollongong.

WIN Corporation CEO Andrew Lancaster says Scarborough Hotel had been a strong asset for the company, but WIN’s focus is growing and maintaining the organisation’s media and investment businesses.

“It is time for a new owner to guide this iconic site into the future,” he says.

“We are happy to have sold Scarborough Hotel to Epochal Hotels as we are passing it into safe hands with a proven track record.

“Epochal Hotels has a strong understanding of pubs and hospitality and we look forward to seeing what fresh ideas they bring to the hotel.”
