Novotel Sydney unveils $20m makeover

Sustainability is the focus of the newly-renovated hotel which has lived previous lives as a Travelodge and Mercure.

Novotel Sydney City Centre by Accor has revealed its $20 million refurbishment with a focus on sustainability and guest amenities.

The 283-room hotel near Wynyard train station was renovated with a design philosophy to create rooms and spaces that ‘move’ with guests.

Sustainability is a key focus with the removal of single-use plastics, the introduction of still and sparkling water taps in the bar, natural amenities, recycling bins in all rooms and a food waste program.

The environmental focus also means the 22-floor property has live greenery in every room.

Workshops, meetings and networking events can be catered for with guests retiring to rooms with a number of layout options from suites to king rooms with balconies.

Novotel Sydney City Centre GM, Kim Stredder, said the aim is for guests to achieve balance during their stay.

“Room furnishings are flexible allowing guests to customise their stays,” Ms Stredder said.

“We have created an environment that’s ideal for corporate travellers, families and couples.

“This level of dynamism in design will allow guests to truly create a home away from home, and an office away from the office.”

The hotel offers complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi, in-room digital compendiums and QR codes for access to hotel services and amenities, such as room service from the hotel’s restaurant and bar.

In a bonus for corporate travellers and other guests, on Sundays the hotel offers a late checkout of 5pm.
