Nihiwatu

Located on the island of Sumba in Eastern Indonesia (400km west of Bali), Nihiwatu has added nine new villas to complement the existing 12 villas.

Hand-built by local craftsmen with material indigenous to Indonesia, including alang alang, teak and rattan, Nihiwatu’s new villas overlook the Indian Ocean and have sandy-floored bathrooms, private pools and open-air, open-plan living spaces.

The standout features of the four new one-bed Marangga Wave Front Villas include the floor-to-ceiling, hand-carved four-poster beds and private gardens that lead to a suspended oceanfront bale with double daybed and private plunge pool.

The highlight of the two-storey Kanatar Sumba House is the second-floor bedroom that opens onto a balcony amid the treetops, with elevated jungle shower and bird’s eye views.

The two new Lulu Amahu Villas have adjoining bedrooms that share a living room, terrace, decking and seaside perched bale (one with private plunge pool) and the two new Lamba Wave Front Villas are located on the doorstep of the legendary Indian Ocean left-hand break with barefoot access to the beach through the gardens, as well as a private plunge pool with teak cabana.
