Since opening in January 2011, David Walsh’s Museum of Old and New Art (MONA), in Hobart, has seen more than 500,000 people explore this unique subterranean art gallery and its set to attract many more with the opening of its biggest exhibition so far- Theatre of the World.

This exhibition, which runs until April 8, 2013, is set to provide more visual challenges for visitors.

The Pavillions at MONA offer unique accommodation options for groups.

‘Theatre of the World’ will be Australia’s largest collaboration between a private and public museum, with 180 works from David Walsh’s private collection at MONA and around 300 works from the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery’s collection.

The exhibition also features special commissions and selected loans from other important Australian and international collections, including works by Pablo Picasso, Alberto Giacometti, Max Ernst, Fernand Léger, Sol LeWitt, and major Australian Aboriginal artists such as Emily Kame Kngwarreye and Walter Tjampitjinpa.

Around 12 percent of visitors to MONA are international visitors. In little over one year MONA has become Tasmania’s most popular travel destination after Hobart’s Salamanca Market.

The museum has also become highly popular for corporate and special events, in particulary cocktail functions throughout the galleries for up to 500. MONA also offers The Pavillions a luxury option for overnight stays.
