First look at Sofitel Adelaide ahead of its September opening

The 251-room hotel is inspired by three Adelaide themes: churches, arts and culture, and wine.

Accor has offered a sneak peek into the upcoming Sofitel Adelaide, as the hotel gears up for its official opening this September.

Marking the luxury brand’s debut in South Australia, the hotel will feature 251 guestrooms and suites inside a new-build, mixed-used development.

Located on Currie Street, the $150 million hotel has been designed by Adelaide-raised Carl Almeida from P49 DEESIGN who previously led the design of SO/ Melbourne, Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi in Vietnam and Fairmont Mumbai in India.

“Our vision for Sofitel Adelaide was to bring to life three quintessential Adelaide themes — city of churches, arts and culture, and wine — and to weave these narratives into the hotel’s contemporary interiors, all of which are also a nod to the hotel’s cultural link to the city of Bordeaux in France,” said Almeida.

In keeping with the brand’s French roots, Sofitel Adelaide aims to blend French colonial-style aesthetics with contemporary nods to the character of Adelaide.

An original piece by Australian fine-art photographer Alexia Sinclair, titled Field of Dreams, will welcome guests into the lobby, while a striking red wine-inspired chandelier leads them into the lounge bar.

In a subtle reference to Adelaide’s moniker, The City of Churches, influences from cathedrals in both Adelaide and France can be found in the signature floor design used throughout the hotel, while mosaics in each of the guestroom showers are inspired by cathedral-style stained glass windows.

The hotel will also include a French-inspired restaurant, two bars, dedicated meeting and private dining rooms and a Sofitel Club Lounge.

Accor Pacific CEO Simon McGrath said Adelaide is the ideal destination for the brand.

“The hotel’s design reflects the distinct sense of style and sophistication of Sofitel,” he said.

“Sofitel Adelaide is one of our biggest hotel openings of 2021 and its level of luxury and on-site amenities will ensure it’s one of Adelaide’s most illustrious new destinations.”
