Crowne Plaza Hobart opens to local guests

Planners can choose from six meeting spaces, including a 550 pax ballroom.

InterContinental Hotels Group has opened the doors to Crowne Plaza Hobart this week, welcoming guests into the contemporary new-build property.

Located in the heart of Hobart on Liverpool Street, the hotel features 235 rooms, each with views of the harbour or Mount Wellington, plus two restaurants and six meeting spaces.

Originally planned to open in March 2020, Crowne Plaza Hobart’s launch was postponed due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.

However, the delayed opening has allowed the hotel to implement a number of enhanced cleanliness measures, supported by the global rollout of IHG’s Way of Clean and Clean Promise.

While the Tasmanian border remains closed to all states and territories, the hotel is welcoming local travellers under the state’s current stage 3 of COVID-19 recovery.

Meeting planners can choose from almost 900 square metres of event space, including the ballroom with natural lighting and capacity for up to 550 guests.

Local executive chef John Churchill will lead the culinary direction at the hotel’s two restaurants, Core Restaurant and Bar and The Deck.

Churchill follows a farm-to-table philosophy with a focus on small batch suppliers and low-waste processes, including a partnership with Macquarie Point’s ‘Edible Precinct’ where organic waste will be dehydrated and composted to fuel the rooftop gardens.

The hotel is also home to Hobart’s first Club Lounge, offering guests complimentary evening canapés and beverages.
