Review shows Darwin’s appeal for event planners

The NT hopes to attract planners after success of recent showcase.

Darwin’s capacity to provide a meaningful and inspiring business events destination was recently on display when a group of planners experienced how the Northern Territory is genuinely ‘different in every sense for business events’.

Darwin Showcase 2023 held to align with the Darwin Festival in August highlighted insights into how the Northern Territory’s suite of annual events can enhance the delegate experience.

Director of KE Creative Events, Nadia Kentera, said Darwin is an incredible destination with so much culture, history and land to explore.

“Delegates will leave Darwin feeling more enriched from being connected to the sun and country,” Ms Kentera said.

“A surprising destination that should be on everyone’s business events list.”

As part of the showcase, a dinner staged at the Mindil Beach Casino Resort featured an elegant setting on the resort’s extensive manicured lawns, offering breath-taking views out to a spectacular over-water Darwin sunset.

The evening commenced with a traditional Welcome to Country which was delivered on behalf of the local Larrakia People by Saltwater Cultural Tours.

In addition to the NT-focussed cuisine, a performance by the team from Katherine Outback Experience was a highlight.

The four-day familiarisation tour featured site inspections of key business events infrastructure including accommodation and meeting venues such as the Darwin Convention Centre.

NT Business Events Director, Rebecca McCaig, said this year’s Darwin Showcase program hosted by the organisation with its partners, highlighted the many ways in which events and festivals can enhance a business event held in the Northern Territory.

“We’re fortunate to experience these distinctive events first-hand and have an opportunity to enrich our business events visitors’ experience and their connection to the land, the people and the ancient culture,” Ms McCaig said.
