EEAA addresses skill shortage by introducing new traineeship program

The industry initiative was developed in partnership with TAFE NSW and Apprenticeships Support Australia.

The Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia (EEAA) is set to introduce an all-new industry traineeship program in a bid to address the skill shortages within the business events sector.

Developed in partnership with TAFE NSW and Apprenticeships Support Australia, the industry traineeships program will deliver fit-for-purpose training and skills development for school leavers and people starting out in their careers.

EEAA chief executive Joyce DiMascio said the events sector needs a pipeline of young talent and this is a ground breaking traineeship program designed for the industry.

“Through this new program, we are providing a comprehensive framework that supports new entrants to our industry, ensures high standards for our sector, and delivers a potential new pipeline of candidates that companies can train into long-term employees with the specific skills required by their business,” she commented.

There are two traineeships being offered. The first is a program for organisers, suppliers and administration roles which will be known as a SIT30517 Certificate III in Events.

The second is a traineeship for staging and technical service roles (CUA30415 Certificate in Live Production).

To begin with, this opportunity will only be available in NSW.

“TAFE NSW has secured special funding to deliver this for our industry and I urge you to take advantage of this opportunity to supplement your workforce by recruiting school leavers into our industry.” DiMascio said.

The structured training will be delivered by TAFE NSW Ultimo and will be timetabled in consultation with employers to ensure flexibility during peak periods.
