Fun idea: Abu Dhabi sand sculptures at Darling Harbour

Sand sculptor Dennis Massoud has re-created some of Abu Dhabi’s landmarks at Sydney’s Darling Harbour earlier this week.

Massoud, who has spent over 20 years creating sand sculptures across the world, spent three days constructing a magnificent recreation of the iconic Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Emirates Palace and the Al Jahili Fort.

Massoud said, “I ended up deciding on the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Emirates Palace and Al Jahili Fort as they are true icons in Abu Dhabi and are a great representation of the opulence, beauty and rich heritage that the emirate embodies”.

The sculptures, made from five tonnes of sand and reaching up to two metres high, were part of a family-fun event hosted by Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority. The event, titled Abu Dhabi Oasis, was held in celebration of local Emirati culture and cuisine and featured camel rides, an Arabian band, henna tattooing and calligraphy.
