I Need Helpers’ director oversees the 35 St Kilda Festival event ‘helpers’ for the last three years and values the event experience gained from one of Australia’s largest surviving community Festivals.

I Need Helpers has been working with the St Kilda Festival to supply student volunteers for the last three years.

During the Festival week, these students will be assisting the event staff with set-up, liaising with venue staff / performers and manning the information points located in St Kilda – providing them all with an insight in to the event operations and preparation required for running such a large-scale event.

“St Kilda Festival truly remains Melbourne’s hallmark event and we’re excited for the students who will take home an abundance of new skills and knowledge. The skills and knowledge acquired over this week will help solidify course content and play a vital role for their future career involvement” said Alex Rixon-Booth, director of I Need Helpers

Rixon-Booth now oversees more than 450 staff and volunteers for the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival continues to influence the link between industry and Melbourne event students.

During the Festival week, event students will be assisting the event staff with set-up, liaising with venue staff / performers and manning the information points located in St Kilda.

“I noticed early-on that employers look for motivated individuals and those who show they have gone out of their way to acquire experience on their own terms. Experience will usually outweigh a qualification – by no means am I saying that a qualification is meaningless; however, the two together will make a strong CV,” he said.

Event management students involved are from multiple institutes across Melbourne including Victoria University, William Angliss Institute of TAFE, Holmesglen, Martin College, Swinburne University of Technology & RMIT and more.
