Australia's first inaugural SPARC International Lighting Event is delighted to officially announce it will welcome three of the international lighting community's elite to Sydney this June as keynote speakers

Australia’s first inaugural SPARC International Lighting Event is delighted to officially announce it will welcome three of the international lighting community’s elite to Sydney this June as keynote speakers.

They will join a group of 17 industry experts from right across the globe who will form part of the lecture series and three day program of lighting displays and networking opportunities.

Headlining the show will be Mark Major, previous International Association of Lighting Designers “Designer of the Year” and London-based Director of one of the world’s most respected lighting design practices, Speirs + Major.

Major is internationally recognised for projects including The Millennium Dome in Greenwich, England, St Paul’s Cathedral, London, Royal Festival Hall, London and the Beijing Capital International Airport.

Mark says he’s looking forward to coming to Sydney to share his knowledge and experience while also welcoming the chance to spend time among some of the industry’s best.

“I will be discussing our team’s approach on every scale from light masterplanning, a major focus of our practice, to some of our architectural projects such as the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, and the directions our practice has been taking in the world of branding and product development for companies such as Armani, Sony and the BBC,” said Major. “I am looking forward to coming to Sydney because SPARC affords the opportunity to meet up with like-minded professionals and engage with the latest creative and technological trends in Australia, New Zealand and Asia, which is now a very active market for international lighting designers such as ourselves.

“Australia has an enviable record for environmentally sensitive lighting design and I believe that the rest of the world has a lot to learn from what you have been doing and in particular with respect to green star-rated commercial buildings.

“Sydney is a great city to visit and one where we are now engaged in increasing amounts of work – and in particular the exciting Barangaroo development with Lend Lease and their architects Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners.”

The two other key speakers to SPARC Lighting Event include Chou Lien, President of BPI Brandston Partnership Inc., based in China and the USA, who will be discussing how to position ourselves in the world of the low carbon trend. He will be joined by Oscar Peña, Senior Creative Director Lighting, Philips Design, flying in from Holland, who will be sharing Innovative trends in LED lighting.

The Event will take place from June 6-8 at Doltone House Jones Bay and Darling Island Wharves, Darling Harbour  and is open to architects, lighting designers, industrial designers, engineers, interior designers, landscape designers, building and project managers.
