Hobart welcomes new direct Qantas routes

Tasmanian business leaders have welcomed the announcement by Qantas of a direct route between Perth and Hobart from 26 September 2025.

The new service will operate three times per week – Mondays, Fridays and Sundays – and is set to boost Tasmania’s international connectivity by providing a one-stop journey to Hobart via Perth from key Qantas international destinations such as London, Paris and Rome.

Business Events Tasmania CEO Marnie Craig says her organisation welcomes the new Qantas routes.

“We’ve just returned from exhibiting at IMEX Frankfurt, where we found momentum building behind destinations with a strong sustainable identity and a story to tell,” she says.

“Tasmania offers both and this new connection will help remove barriers for international visitors to make it easier for event organisers to consider [the state] for their next destination.

“With $350 million in upgrades underway at Hobart Airport – including works to support direct flights into key Asian hubs – our island is more connected than ever.”

The recent return of international flights into Hobart through Air New Zealand’s direct route from Auckland also provides one-stop access from the US and other locations via New Zealand.

“These new services and airport upgrades [demonstrate] that people want to come to Tasmania,” says Craig.

“From 100-per-cent renewable energy to some of the world’s cleanest air, Tasmania is a destination aligned with the values that matter to global audiences, and we can’t wait to welcome them here.”
