In a move set to enhance international connectivity and bolster the Far North Queensland and Fijian economies, the new route from Cairns to Nadi, on Fiji’s west coast, will offer seamless connections to major US cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco and Dallas, reducing travel times by up to three hours and eliminating the need for domestic transfers in Australia.
The new service will commence in April 2025 and is expected to attract more international visitors to Australia, including business travellers and conference delegates attending events at Cairns Convention Centre (pictured, above).
“It is going to be easier than ever for delegates travelling to and from North America,” says Janet Hamilton, general manager, Cairns Convention Centre.
“We are seeing increasing interest from global event organisers, and the new flight route to and from Nadi – with onward connections to the US – couldn’t have come at a better time for us and future international visitors.”
The Cairns-Nadi service will operate three times a week – on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays – using Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
The route will add 53,000 seats annually to the market, providing significant opportunities for businesses and tourism operators in Far North Queensland.
“This announcement from Fiji Airways – Fiji’s national airline – is a game changer for our region,” says Richard Barker, CEO, Cairns Airport.
“The new service is a significant step forward in expanding Cairns’ network and improving accessibility for domestic and international travellers.”
The new route – which is supported by the Federal Government’s International Tourism Recovery Program – aligns with Fiji Airways’ Nadi-Dallas Fort Worth schedule, creating efficient links for visitors heading to Cairns and Great Barrier Reef from the US.
