TarraWarra Museum of Art has opened its Eva and Marc Besen Centre, in Healesville, in Yarra Valley, northeast of the Victorian capital.

The new 2205-square-metre building features a 46-metre glass wall showcasing more than 300 artworks.

The light-filled, flexible space is capable of hosting business events, including conferences, workshops, lectures, team gatherings and live art events.

It is equipped with seating for up to 200 people for performances and 90 people for onstage presentations and panel sessions, and boasts crystal clear acoustics and “discreet tech infrastructure”.

Outside the Eva and Marc Besen Centre, there are sculpture walks and sweeping views that connect delegates with art and nature.

“An exciting chapter for TarraWarra Museum of Art, the new centre expands the museum’s program and deepens our engagement with current and new audiences,” says Dr Victoria Lynn, director, TarraWarra Museum of Art.

“We look forward to exploring the range of experiences that can be generated by the centre, drawing inspiration from our location, exemplary collection and current ideas.”

The Eva and Marc Besen Centre was designed by Melbourne-based Kerstin Thompson Architects.

“The architectural concept is driven by TarraWarra Museum of Art’s commitment to fostering artistic exploration, cultural enrichment and intellectual engagement,” says Kerstin Thompson, director, Kerstin Thompson Architects.

“Designed to support a diverse range of activities, the spaces are adaptable and interchangeable, accommodating gatherings for up to 200 attendees.

“The focus of the centre is the museum’s collection [with] an innovative approach utilising a secure glass wall to reveal its treasures to all visitors.”
