David Hockney, John Olsen and Viktor&Rolf exhibitions are coming to The National Gallery of Victoria.

The David Hockney exhibition will feature more than 700 works from the past decade of Hockney’s career – many never-before-seen in Australia – including paintings, digital drawings, photography and video works.

Opening in November and curated by the NGV in collaboration with the artist and his studio, exhibition highlights include the monumental video piece The Four Seasons, Woldgate Woods, a breath-taking and immersive video installation which depicts the changing of the seasons in Hockney’s hometown of Yorkshire.

Other works will showcase Hockney’s vibrant landscapes, while his famous portraits will be represented through more than 80 paintings of his friends, families and notable subjects including Barry Humphries and John Baldessari. Prolific to this day, Hockney now works with new technologies and more than 600 of his iPad and iPhone drawings and animations will also be on display.

In September, a major survey of John Olsen’s work, titled The You Beaut Country, will trace seven decades of energised creation from his first solo exhibition in 1955 to recent work, highlighting his spectacular re-imaginings of the Australian landscape. Along with paintings and works on paper, the exhibition will feature commissioned ceiling paintings, tapestries and ceramics, drawn from public and private collections throughout Australia.
