SCEC entertains Worldwide Chinese Life Insurance Congress


From bouncing kangaroos to a replica Sydney Opera House, the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre’s award-winning production team demonstrated their creative flair at the recent 2012 Worldwide Chinese Life Insurance Congress.

One of the largest meetings on the Centre’s 2012 calendar, the Congress attracted close to 3000 delegates, with the Centre hosting plenary and breakout meetings as well as the opening ceremony and awards evening.


Charged with delivering the entertainment for the meeting, the Centre Technical Production and Design team organised an array of acts, starting with two 2.5-metre tall bouncing kangaroos which greeted delegates as they arrived at Sydney Airport.

Throughout their two days at the Centre, guests were entertained by a wide range of performances including a pipe band, a father and daughter duet, an aerial acrobatics act and a spectacular drumming group.

To meet the brief, the team also created an impressive 30-metre wide stage for the Bayside Auditorium, spanned by a massive Sydney Harbour Bridge and framed with large China Life banners.
 


Meanwhile a 3D model Sydney Opera House – measuring eight metres long and more than three metres high – was created by the Centre team for the Parkside Foyer, providing a popular photo backdrop for delegates.

The Centre also organised photographers to take images of the Congress, with more than one thousand large A4 photos printed onsite and bound into special albums for select delegates during the event.

Signage throughout the Centre for the Chinese-speaking event was provided in traditional Chinese, along with menus in the casual Bayside Lounge, with Cantonese speaking staff from the Centre, positioned at key locations.

Centre Chief Executive Ton van Amerongen said it was an honour to be chosen as the venue for the prestigious Congress, which has never been held outside Asia before.

“This was a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate the creativity and professionalism of the Centre’s team to an international audience and also showcase our fantastic Sydney location,” he said.
