South Australia’s reputation as the leading state with respect to environmental and sustainability issues has been enhanced once again with the focus of the nation’s best to be firmly placed upon South Australia in 2012 and 2014.

A successful pitch by the Adelaide Convention Bureau and the Government of South Australia to host what is considered the premiere event for Australia’s environmental and industry leaders – the Enviro Conference and Exhibition, will see bi-annual winter event hosted in Adelaide on two consecutive occasions.

Damien Kitto, CEO Adelaide Convention Bureau said “since its inception in 2000, Enviro has rotated between Sydney and Melbourne in partnership with the NSW and Victorian governments however the Adelaide Convention Bureau felt South Austrlia’s ability to offer an alterative ‘home’ for the event for 2012 and beyond was a viable opportunity worth pursuing. We researched and prepared a bid proposal in collaboration with Zero Waste SA, and all partners are thrilled that we’ve been selected to host not one but two events.”

The announcement to host the event was publicly made by the Hon. Paul Caica, Minister for Environment and Conservation at the Ozwater 11 conference and exhibition which has seen thousands of water professionals from throughout Australia head to Adelaide for the nation’s largest water conference.

“Winning the rights to host the Enviro Conference and Exhibition in South Australia reinforces the state’s reputation for innovation and leadership in waste management, water conservation and renewable energy, both nationally and internationally,” said Caica.

“Hosting the conference in South Australia, will enable us to showcase our highly relevant and supportive local industry sectors as well as world class conference infrastructure. “In the past five years we have achieved excellent successes and forged strong and productive collaborative partnerships and reached many of the targets and actions we set for ourselves with a whole of community effort’’ he said

The Enviro conference assembles the leaders of the Australian environment industry addressing themes such as waste management, resource recovery, water, energy, climate change communication, innovation, infrastructure, supply chains and procurement.

This significant event is produced by ‘Enviro Connections’ – a joint venture between the Australian Water Association and the Waste Management Association of Australia. Support is also provided by the Clean Energy Council, E.I.A.N.Z and Sustainable Business Australia.

Issues to be addressed at the conference will include environmental issues in the waste, water, energy and climate change areas. Site visits by delegates will leave a lasting legacy for South Australian businesses with the opportunity to host and highlight to delegates our world-class facilities and infrastructure within this arena. The 2014 event will also showcase the newly renovated Adelaide Convention Centre which already enjoys a reputation globally as a ‘green’ venue.

The Enviro conference announcement caps off an incredibly successful April 2011 for the Adelaide Convention Bureau with business delivering an economic impact of some $13.7 million to South Australia.
