Wollongong ready to wow at Australian Business Events Expo

Wollongong’s emergence as a major conference and incentive destination just 90 minutes from Sydney will be on show at the Australian Business Events Expo 2010 at Sydney Convention Centre Darling Harbour on July 22-23.

“Now offering nine international-brand hotels, an exciting mix of tours and activities and new conference facilities, the city has never been better positioned as a business events destination,” said Tourism Wollongong’s general manager Greg Binskin.

for conferencing at ABEE this month

Binskin said two new hotels – the 168-room Chifley Wollongong in the CBD and 45-unit Quality Suites Pioneer Sands at nearby Towradgi – would lift the city’s conference capacity by an extra 850 delegates when they open.

“Opening July 5, The Quality Suites Pioneer Sands boasts meetings and break out spaces for up to 350 delegates while Chifley Wollongong, opening in September, has nine new conference rooms and facilities for up to 500 delegates,” he added.

“And just around the corner from the Chifley we will see even more conference space going into the Western Grandstand of WIN Stadium, an increasingly important part of the WIN Sports and Entertainment Centre complex for business events.”

Spread along 17 patrolled beaches and framed by the broodingly beautiful Illawarra Escarpment, Wollongong offers a growing range of tours, activities and attractions.

Around the city you can skydive the beach, catch a chauffeured Harley Davidson ride into the hinterland, paraglide off the escarpment, enjoy panoramic views from Mt Keira Lookout, drive Ferrari supercars through Royal National Park and across the magnificent Sea Cliff Bridge, trek or ride along a beachfront cycleway, traipse into the region’s mining past at Mt Kembla village, or just kick back in a range of fantastic beachside cafes and seafood restaurants.

Australian Business Events Expo delegates are invited to visit booth C11 to meet the Wollongong team and learn more about the Gong – or seek out business events information by emailing conferences@wollongong.nsw.gov.au
