World Masters Games Health & Lifestyle Expo A Winner


The Health & Lifestyle Expo alongside the Sydney 2009 World Masters Games was a real bonus for athletes attending the largest multisport event in Australia.

More thank 28,000 competitors, double the participant numbers at the Olympics, and over 6000 volunteers visited the expo, which was buzzing, especially on the weekend (October 10-11).  The entire expo ran for one week at The Dome at Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park.

held at a Masters Games

Organised by Interpoint Events, director Simon Cooper, said the event attracted 100 companies making it the largest expo held at a Masters Games.

“The concept of the expo was to create a ‘games experience’ for competitors,” he said. “It was located at the Games Centre and the entrances were immediately after competitors had collected their badges. Competitors walked through the expo to collect their backpack and memorabilia.” 

A wide range of products and services were on display, including apparel, health food drinks and snack, natural health products, massages, tourism authorities, footwear and gym equipment. Many of the regional games reported a high level of registrations as interest in Masters Games grew.

NSW Minister for Tourism Jodi Mckay was on hand as a Game volunteer an also to welcome Prince Frederick of Demark, who in addition to competing in the sailing was the official guest of honour at the Opening Ceremony.

As the expo closed on Sunday the opening ceremony took place with music icons John Paul Young, Jessica Mauboy and the Tap Dogs accompanying over 20,000 plus competitors marching into ANZ Stadium made for a spectacular display.
