By Gwen O’Toole
Following a $60 million renovation of the iconic Melbourne CBD property, The InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto raised the curtain at a grand re-opening last week.

Guests included the Minister for Tourism and Major Events, Tim Holding MP, and a veritable who’s who of the hotel industry, including InterContinental Hotel Group Asia Pacific CEO, Peter Gowers.

Joining them were Zoe Naylor, Jemma Gawned and representatives from The Australian Ballet, Ermenegildo Zegna, Tiffany & Co, Melbourne Storm Rugby League Club and Opera Australia, amongst others.

Specialist event company James Gordon Workshop designed and produced the event that saw aerial artists Dislocate entertain guests from the hotel’s 32m high atrium. The performance saw the artists were suspended 8m off the ground on rope and silk performing breathtaking drops, climbs, spins and twists with grace, strength and flexibility.
The hotel will join the ranks of other heritage-listed InterContinental Hotels including the InterContinental Le Grand Paris, InterContinental The Willard Washington and the InterContinental Sydney.
“This revitalised hotel will be one of the best in the country and a flagship example of the InterContinental brand,” said the general manager Manrique Rodriguez.
