Perth event manager Shani Wood has been crowned Event Manager of the Year in the Australian Event Awards held in Sydney last week (8 October) for producing one of the worlds most successful motorsport events, the Red Bull Air Race World Championship.

The award, recognising exceptional work over a 12-month period, acknowledged Wood’s efforts in operating her small business, SW Events for the event operations and production of the Red Bull Air Race since the first Australian leg, held in Perth in 2006. Following its success, SW Events was contracted to deliver six international legs of this huge global event – in London, San Diego (twice), Detroit, Windsor, Ontario, and Perth.

Shani Wood – Event Manager of the Year

“This is a huge honour and it’s wonderful the hard-working Australian events industry now has a way of formally recognising the talent and the events created and produced here and overseas.

“I’m a small operator with a young and talented team and it is wonderful to be awarded for our efforts in an industry where we work behind the scenes to create successful results.”

The Australian Event Awards is the only opportunity for Australian events and event organisers to be acknowledged across the entire national events industry.

Outside the Red Bull Air Race, Shani Wood has been awarded a Prime Minister’s Centenary of Federation Medal; has represented Western Australia as a board member of the Western Australia Events Industry Association and the National Festival and Events Association; and has represented Western Australia on the National Event Educators Forum.
